(When e talk about a long action which began in the past and has recently stopped or just stopped)

Mr Brown : Is it raining?
Mrs Brown : No, but the ground is wet? It has been raining.

I’m very tired. I have been working hard.
Roberto Carlos is out of breath. He has been playing football.

(To ask or say howlong; the action or situtaion began in the past and stil happening or has just stopped.)(With how long, for and since)

Mr Brown : Is it raining?
Mrs Brown : Yes, it has been raining for 3 hours.

How long have you been learning French?
I have been watching television since 8 o’clock.
Suzy hasn’t been feeling very well recently.
